Man Accused of Tying Woman Up for 24 Hours, Robbing Her, Pleads Not Guilty

A 20-year-old Redwood City man who allegedly held a San Mateo woman captive for 24 hours in her home during a residential burglary pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges including kidnapping, burglary, robbery and assault, according to prosecutors.

 Hugo Heduardo Munguia-Hernandez pleaded not guilty to all charges in San Mateo County Superior Court in connection with the March 17 incident, according to District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

 The lengthy list of charges against Munguia-Hernandez includes kidnapping, robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a Taser, identity theft, elder abuse, grand theft auto, receiving stolen property, possession a firearm and two counts of burglary.

 It was around 12:30 p.m. on March 17 when a 66-year-old woman returned home form the grocery store and confronted a suspect inside her home, according to police and prosecutors.

 The suspect attacked her with a Taser, bound her wrists and ankles, gagged her with a sock, stuck a bag over her head and left her in a closet overnight, prosecutors said. He also brandished a handgun and threatened to kill the victim.

 The suspect stole items from the home and used the woman's ATM card multiple times before he eventually let her go.

 It was a surveillance image from one of those ATM uses that led to Munguia-Hernandez' arrest police said.

 Munguia-Hernandez remains in custody without bail and will return to court April 17 to set a date for a preliminary hearing, Wagstaffe said.
