It's no secret mountain lions live in San Mateo County.
In fact, some can even be spotted roaming the hills -- and even our backyards -- from time to time.
Mountain lions actually exist in more than half of California, and generally live wherever deer are present.
Patch has put together this interactive map of all reported mountain lion sightings in San Mateo County in 2012.
Residents are advised to avoid contact with a mountain lion. If one is seen, do not run and try to appear as large and noisy as possible. For more information on mountain lions, visit www.keepmewild.org.
