Almost two years after Christopher Calvache was fatally shot in a Hillborough home's pool house by his longtime friend, a Redwood City judge on Friday sentenced the man responsible to seven years in state prison, according to prosecutors.
Bradley Kleiman, 32, of Hillsborough, pleaded no contest in January to voluntary manslaughter and the use of a firearm in the June 15, 2010, death of Calvache.
At the sentence hearing Friday morning, Calvache's mother, father, sister and niece addressed the court and spoke about the harm the killing has caused their family, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
Kleiman has already accrued 745 days -- or about two years -- of credit toward his sentence. He was also ordered to pay restitution to Calvache's family and to the state of California, Wagstaffe said.
The amount he will owe is to be determined by the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Wagstaffe said.
Police said they received a 911 call from Kleiman at 6:05 p.m. during which Kleiman told them he had shot Calvache after Calvache pulled a gun on him.
Calvache had been visiting Kleiman at 100 De Salba Road, where Kleiman lived in his parents' pool house.
When officers arrived, they found Calvache dead with multiple gunshot wounds and saw Kleiman carrying marijuana plants in the backyard, according to prosecutors.
Only one gun was found at the scene.
According to prosecutors, Calvache and Kleiman met at the pool house and had plans to get dinner but got into an argument during which Kleiman shot Calvache twice in the head and once in the buttocks.
The homicide was the first in six years in the quiet Peninsula town of just more than 11,000 residents, considered one of the most affluent in the country.
In January, Kleiman also pleased no contest to a felony allegation. According to prosecutors, Kleiman had a hold for violating his parole for a 2006 incident for which he was convicted of recklessly evading a police officer and felony driving under the influence causing injury.
