Fundraising Website Established for Family Whose House Burned in Fire

The fire burned at a home on York Avenue on Wednesday night.

Family members of a San Mateo couple whose house was badly damaged in a fire last week have established a website to raise money for the victims.

Uatesoni and Anna Paasi lost everything in the house fire that started in their garage while they were at work on Thursday, Dec. 5, according to their page on youcaring.com.

There were four people in the house asleep at the time of the fire -- three of them were their children -- when they were awakened by the smell of smoke just before 10 p.m.

Five fire engines, one ladder truck and two Battalion Chiefs were dispatched to the incident at 1523 York Ave., equally 21 firefighters. Neighboring agency Central County Fire Department assisted San Mateo units.

The flames were extinguished within 15 minutes, and no one was injured, but the blaze caused around $250,000 in damage to the structure and an additional $50, 000 to the contents, according to fire officials.

The family, who are active members in their church in Foster City, would appreciate any donations, according to the website.
