Fire Damages Two San Mateo Homes

The fire occurred Saturday morning and left four residents displaced.

The San Mateo Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire that damaged two San Mateo homes and displaced four residents Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire at 1176 Shoreline Drive at about 8:30 a.m. The first arriving crews found flames burning in the space between the building's first and second floors.

Occupants of the top-floor unit were alerted to the blaze by an activating smoke detector, fire officials said.
