Crime Blotter 3/4-3/10: Knife-Wielding Son Attempts Entry, Suspicious Man with Flowers

Excerpts from the San Mateo Police Department's daily call log.

Friday

9:58 a.m. - Civil Dispute - Someone on the 100 block of Elm Street reported a case of unpaid alimony that might involve fraud.

1:17 p.m. - Disturbance - An unwanted panhandler, heavyset with a walker, was harassing people in front of a store on the 700 block of East Fourth Avenue.

3:11 p.m. - Civil Dispute - Two parents got into an argument in front of an auditorium on the 900 block of South El Camino Real, possibly about child custody.

4:01 p.m. - Disturbance / Fight - Roughly eight people got into a fight at Ramona Street and Poplar Avenue, which police believe was gang-related. Someone had bats and some had metal sticks, but no life-threatening injuries were reported.

6:47 p.m. - Disturbance - A group of people were drinking in an alley on the 100 block of North B Street, harassing a business owner's patrons.

Saturday

1:33 a.m. - Suspicious Person - A man reportedly saw an unknown person in his backyard on the 4000 block of Alameda de Las Pulgas.

5:27 a.m. - Disturbance - An unwanted transient man was told by security to leave a property on the 100 block of South San Mateo Drive, but keeps returning.

9:13 a.m. - Vandalism - An unknown suspect shot a rear car window with a BB gun on the 1500 of Jasmine Street.

6:31 p.m. - Disturbance / Fight - A group of people in a restaurant on the 1900 block of South Norfolk Street were reportedly throwing trays around and appeared ready to fight.

11:04 p.m. - Civil Dispute - A woman reported that a man she has a restraining order against showed up twice that day to her house on the 300 block of Villa Drive, but was gone when she called police.

Sunday

10:44 a.m. - Attempted Car Burglary - An unknown suspect tried to break into a car on the 200 block of Aragon Boulevard, but fled without taking anything and actually leaving some personal items behind.

5:38 p.m. - Disturbance - Someone reported an explosion, possibly a blown transformer, at the intersection of Seventh Avenue and South Amphlett Boulevard.

7:23 p.m. - Accident / Property Damage Only - A two-car accident happened, with no major injuries, at the intersection 31st Avenue and South El Camino Real. One of the drivers was eight-months pregnant.

8:24 p.m. - Civil Dispute - A woman on the 1800 block of Dale Avenue told police she feared her ex-husband was in the neighborhood, who used to physically abuse her. She told officers she would meet them at a nearby market.

8:39 p.m. - Civil Dispute - A father called police to report that his son was passed out drunk on his couch on the 4100 block of George Avenue and he doesn't want him there.

Monday

12:24 p.m. - Unattended Death - Someone reported that a tenant was lying on the floor on the 2100 block of South El Camino Real, non responsive and apparently dead from unknown causes.

1:12 p.m. - Suspicious Person - A man wearing a strange hat was walking around Isabelle and Buena Vista avenues, looking into windows and knocking on doors. 

3:07 p.m. - Car Burglary - An unknown suspect broke into a locked car on the 2900 block of South Norfolk Street.

3:57 p.m. - Disturbance - A homeless person was bothering people on the 2800 block of South El Camino Real, asking them for money.

3:51 p.m. - Theft - A video system caught a suspect stealing something on the first block of West Hillsdale Boulevard.

Tuesday

4:05 a.m. - Residential Burglary - Unknown suspects walked into a house on the 100 block of West Hillsdale Boulevard and stole a computer and Nintendo gaming console.

10:52 a.m. - Embezzlement - Someone reported embezzlement at the Easy Rent-A-Car on the 1400 block of Third Avenue.

12:03 p.m. - Domestic Disturbance - Someone heard glass breaking on the 900 block of Norton Street, called police, and reported seeing a 4-year-old child crying outside next to mother.

2:10 p.m. - Suspicious Person - A woman on the 300 block of Fremont Street told police a man who she has not seen since seventh grade showed up at her door with flowers.

5:09 p.m. - Battery - A man was trying to pump gas on the 1900 block of Delaware Street when another man came up and pushed him.

9:53 p.m. - Domestic Disturbance / Fight - A woman on the 300 block of Poplar Avenue reported that her boyfriend was being beat up by her brother.

Wednesday

9:54 a.m. - Lost Property - A woman, Spanish-speaking only, told police she lost her Mexican Consulate identification near the 100 block of East Third Avenue.

2:11 p.m. - Assault / Battery - A woman called police to report an assault on the first block of Claremont Street by her neighbor, who reportedly bit her finger.

4:04 p.m. - Assault / Battery - A suspicious man who showed up at a woman's door on the 300 block of Fremont Street with flowers on Tuesday returned again and was waiting outside. The woman told police Tuesday that she had not seen him since the seventh grade. He was wearing a shirt with a marijuana leaf on it.

8:59 p.m. - Residential Burglary - Someone reported a home burglary on the 800 block of North El Camino Real that happened sometime after Monday.

Thursday

12:58 a.m. - Domestic Disturbance - A 22-year-old son was trying to get into his parent's home on the 1100 block of Edinburgh, wielding a knife. Police later detained him.

1:34 p.m. - Brandishing a Weapon - A man in his 30s with long black hair pulled a machete on a work crew at the intersection of South El Camino Real and 39th Avenue, but did not use it. Police later detained the man.

4:08 p.m. - Non-Injury Accident - A driver was backing out of a driveway on the first block of East Third Street and accidentally hit a pedestrian, who was not injured.

5:19 p.m. - Shoplifting Arrest - Police arrested a juvenile for shoplifting at Hillsdale Mall, but could not reach the parents.

7:02 p.m. - Fire - Fire crews responded to a car fire, likely of mechanical origin, at the intersection of 28th Avenue and Alameda de Las Pulgas.

11:27 p.m. - Theft - An unknown suspect stole liquor from a store on the 1600 block of El Camino Real and fled in a grey Chevy Blazer.
