Crash Causes Delays on 101 Near Poplar

Accident just south of Poplar Ave. exit may have been caused by seizure, CHP says; delays expected in southbound direction.

The California Highway Patrol says a car crash this afternoon on Highway 101 near the Popular Avenue exit in San Mateo may have been caused by a driver having a seizure. No serious injuries were reported, but delays are expected in the southbound direction.

According to a CHP dispatch officer, the accident, reported between 2 and 2:30 p.m. today, involves a Lexus and a blue Dodge pickup, which crashed into the center divider "just south of Poplar." He said the accident may have been caused by the driver of the pickup having a seizure. A gold Toyota Prius also may be involved in the crash. Further details were not immediately available.

The dispatch officer said lanes 4 and 5 are closed in the southbound direction on Highway 101. Traffic is currently backing up in both directions.
