Court Proceedings Delayed Again in Michelle Le Murder Case

Giselle Esteban, who was arrested Sept. 7, is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 6 to enter a plea.

Court proceedings in the case of a Union City woman charged with murdering San Mateo nursing student Michelle Le have once again been postponed.

Giselle Diwag Esteban, 27, is scheduled to return to court Jan. 6 to enter a plea.

She appeared in custody at a Hayward Hall of Justice courtroom at about 10:20 a.m. Friday morning with her court-appointed attorney, Andrea Auer, who said she needed more time to examine the case discovery before entering a plea.

The Friday morning appearance marks almost three months after Esteban's .

Esteban was believed to be at least seven months pregnant at the time of her arrest. After the court appearance, Auer announced that Esteban recently had delivered a healthy baby.

Proceedings in the case were  on Sept. 8. They were postponed again when Esteban attempted to fire Auer on Oct. 24. The request was later .

Esteban is the lone suspect charged with the murder of Le, 26.

Le was last seen at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Hayward on May 27 and was missing for nearly four months before .

The cause of Le's death has not yet been released.

Though Le's body was missing at the time of Esteban's arrest, police said evidence, including Le’s DNA found on Esteban’s athletic shoes, footage from security cameras at the Kaiser Permanente parking structure, cell phone records and evidence found inside Le's car, led to Esteban's arrest.
