Burlingame Resident Spots Mountain Lion in Backyard

The animal ran off toward Skyline Boulevard and Interstate Highway 280.

A mountain lion was spotted in the backyard of a home in the hills of Burlingame early Wednesday morning, San Mateo County emergency officials said.

A resident of Margarita Avenue saw the cat in his yard around 1 a.m., emergency officials said. The animal ran off toward Skyline Boulevard and Interstate Highway 280.

Mountain lions typically avoid humans, but in the event of an encounter, authorities advise residents to face the animal, make noise and try to appear threatening.

More information on mountain lions can be found on the state Department of Fish and Wildlife's website at www.keepmewild.org.
