Aragon High Coach Pleads Not Guilty to Sexually Assaulting Student

A preliminary hearing for Joshua Tatro, 25, was scheduled for September.

The  coach  for allegedly touching a female student inappropriately has pleaded not guilty to charges in San Mateo County Superior Court.

Joshua Tatro June 1, the same day he was taken into custody for the alleged crime, and pleaded not guilty at his felony arraignment Thursday, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office.

Tatro, 25, was arrested following a weeks-long investigation into the incident, in which authorities believe Tatro, who has worked as a water polo/swim coach at Aragon High School for the past year, had "inappropriate sexual contact" with a 17-year-old female student.

The student said that during the past year, Tatro had "touched her inappropriately, according to San Mateo police.

Prosecutors say Tatro's relationship with the student, a water polo player, involved repeated "sexual activity and digital penetration," but not sexual intercourse.

There were also "numerous" cell phone exchanges of pictures of private body parts, according to prosecutors.

The incident was first reported to school officials, who immediately contacted the San Mateo Police Department.

Tatro is due to appear back in court on Sept. 6 for his preliminary hearing, and on Aug. 9 for his superior court review conference.
