A Message from the Sheriff's Office About Mavericks

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is encouraging viewing the big surf competition on TV or streamed live from home/work computers.

The Mavericks Invitational Surf Contest is officially set for Friday, Jan. 24, and for those looking to catch the best views of the contest, surf enthusiasts and fans alike are being strongly urged to either watch the event online or on TV.

The event will be streaming live on the Mavericks Invitational website and broadcast on the Universal Sports Network.

Due to the high surf expected day of the contest, those who plan on attending in person are being cautioned to stay off the beaches, bluffs and cliffs as doing so will put their own safety at risk and likely be detrimental to the surrounding ecosystem, according to the San Mateo County sheriff's office.

The Oceano Hotel will once again be hosting the Mavericks Viewing Festival this year and that is where those planning to attend the contest should plan to go.

Tickets can be purchased online here
