San Mateo County Deputy District Attorney Melissa McKowan has been "Reproved" by the State Bar.

SMC DDA Melissa McKowan Censored for Misconduct

According to the State's letter dated March 6, 2013

She has acknowledged "committing an act of professional misconduct," and the state agency has ordered her to attend a one-day state bar ethics school.

Victim's Advocate Victoria Balfour submitted a complaint to the State Bar of California in 2010 after getting no satisfactory response from District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Mr. Wagstaffe told an Almanac reporter  "We took appropriate action" as a result of the DA's office investigation, which was concluded last year."

Her complaint had to do with the Dr. William Ayres case.

The letter from the state bar cited violation of the Business and Professions Code Section 6106 as cause for the sanction. That section addresses "the commission of any act involving moral turpitude, dishonesty or corruption."

The exact words used by the State were "privately reproved"  most of us don't talk like that.
