Animal lovers who attend dog walk/fundraiser are in for a treat: Lil Oscar, a 14-year-old handicapped Shih Tzu, will make an appearance with his custom-designed wagon.
Oscar, who makes appearances at parades and events throughout the Bay Area, became a local animalcelebrity after he threw out two discs in his back on a Halloween night when he was just two years old.
He could have ended up paralyzed with no hope for recovery.
But for more than 10 years, Lil Oscar has been happily scooting along on his hind legs at home.
His family bought him a wheelchair for dogs, which they subsequently built a Covered Wagon to fit over the wheelchair. Oscar has been an inspiration ever since.
The Mutt Strutt will begin at 9 a.m. at Coyote Point Park, located at 1701 Coyote Point Drive in San Mateo, with the meandering 3K stroll set for 11 a.m. The event is run by the Peninsula Humane Society.
Saturday will mark Oscar's fifth appearance at the Mutt Strutt events.
