When Does Daylight Saving Time Start in 2013?

Your clocks "spring forward" an hour early Sunday morning.

By now, most people in Lower Southampton have noticed that daylight is beginning a little earlier each morning.

That means spring and Daylight Saving Time are near. In 2013, the big shift happens on Sunday.

On that date, most of the U.S. will 'spring' clocks forward at 2 a.m., meaning, yes, that you'll lose an hour of sleep. But you'll get an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day.

And when does it end? DST will last until Nov. 3.

In addition to your clocks, the folks at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission - and most fire departments - are reminding everyone that this is also a good time to change batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors

Here's something else to consider as you ponder the loss of an hour of sleep -Alyshah Hasham of thestar.com in Toronto wrote about research that shows that lost sleep has a real impact at work.

"Existing data shows that people have poorer self-control when they are tired, so the average 40 minutes lost sleep during the time switch makes people more inclined to waste time while on the clock."

Mostly, it's folks wasting company time online: 'This “cyberloafing” at work increased by 3.1 per cent on the Monday after Daylight Saving Time kicks in" Hasham writes.

I see that I meant to type "...that connect us to the past," but I accidentally typedRead More "...and connect us to the past." I think my meaning came through, though. Yes, the world does not need another national chain retail store or restaurant, which is surely what they're planning to put in there.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
