San Mateo Men Charged in Hayward Murder

The victim, who was from Hawaii, was found in a vacant Hayward home.

Two San Mateo men were charged with murder Monday for the death of a man from Hawaii whose body was found in the yard of a vacant home in Hayward in September.

Joseph Mataele, 22, and Sosaia Havili, 24, were scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon in Alameda County Superior Court in Hayward for the death of 29-year-old Marcus Brown, who was found in the 1400 block of B Street at about 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 5. Sgt. Mark Ormsby said.

Brown had just come to California on Sept. 4, the day before he was found dead.

Hayward police said Mataele and Havili were arrested on Thursday after investigators found evidence linking them to Brown's death.

Both men are being held in custody without bail.
