Off the Grid Lineup: Aug 29

A run-down of who to expect at Monday's food truck meet-up at San Mateo Caltrain station.

Tonight, Off the Grid San Mateo is making Monday night dinner as easy as putting in an order.

What: A unique weekly event that brings some of the Bay Area's best gourmet food trucks to First and Baldwin streets, San Mateo. Expect a swell of commuters and hungry locals to dine and dash - aside from a few clusters of foldable chairs this is standing-room-only territory.

When: Today, Monday August 22 from 5p.m. to 9p.m.

Where: San Mateo Caltrain Station

Who's going to be feeding the masses?

Kara's Cupcakes @KarasCupcakes A spin-off from a brick and mortar cupcake shop, this food truck is also called the "Karavan." The seasonal flavor of August is an Organic Strawberry Cream.

Curry Up Now @CurryUpNow serving contemporary Indian cuisine, including specialties like tikka masala burritos and pani puri, a fried potato dumpling. If today's lunch menu says anything about whats on order for dinner, look forward to Tikka Masala Burritos, Deconstructed Samosas and Sexy Fries.

3-Sum Eats @3sumeats This truck's specialties include American classics with a twist (Mac N' Cheese Spring Rolls) and hot sandwiches like a tender, juicy pulled-pork. Order the deviled eggs from the sides menu - they taste just like grandma's. Let's hope they will serve-up a special from the Off the Grid Fort Mason menu this past Friday, the Rice Krispies Crusted Fried Chicken Sandwich. Yum!

Señor Sisig @senorsisig This truck serves up contemporary Filipino fare, fusing it with Mexican American flavors. What is sisig? A filipino-style barbecue of diced meats which often incorporates onion, jalapeño, soy sauce, vinegar and other spices. Specialties: sisig tacos, burritos and nachos.

Mama's Empanadas @mamaempanadassf serving empanadas, Mediterranean pocket pie-like tapas. Grab one filled with Niman Ranch beef.

Hiyaaa @HiyaaaRoll Specialties include Banh Mi inspired fusion sandwiches complete with do chua slaw: pickled daikon and carrots, romaine lettuce, and cucumber. Rice plates like Korean marinated beef, Bulkogi over Rice, are equally as inventive. Tonight's menu is set to include a limited number of pork belly rolls.

The WOW Truck @theWOWtruck Specializing in "silog," a Filipino breakfast plate that typically includes garlic fried rice, choice of meat, and an egg (called "itlog"). Try the Tasty Silog Taco: Sriracha Garlic Rice, Corned Beef, topped with an egg overeasy and Pico de Gallo.

Little Green Cyclo @littlegreencyclo An ever-changing menu of Vietnamese inspired cuisine. This week's specials include Surf n' Turf Garlic Noodles and Pandan Waffles.

PS: Ideally, everybody will be able to sign up at the college website. But I have to acknowledgeRead More that some of the language may not be perfectly as clear as we'd like, especially if this is your first enrollment. So, if you need any assistance (or maybe aren't computer-savvy) the very nice Registrar Office people can assist you on 650/574-6165. Just tell them you want to sign up for Summer semester, Real Estate Practice 110 class, Course Reference number 54642 and that you'd like to complete the enrollment today. You'll like the class once we get you in! Thank you!

Among all the supporters isn't there one competent attorney who can get an injunction to keep theRead More rink from being destroyed and who can sue SPI Holding, and if necessary the City, to enforce the Master Plan Agreement? A toilet and an astro turf field are useless to ice skaters. I smell something rotten in the Mayor and the City Council's excuses. At least one skater must have a parent or family member who is an attorney with some sense of decency to do the work pro bono.

To close the ice rink is a crime. I had this conversation years ago with Peter Pau, the man whoRead More built it. We need places for children to recreate. When we send them to juvenile hall, we wring our hands and wonder why! No skate board parks in convenient places and now the skating rink. Why are our children the ones to sacrafice?
