East Bay Quake Rattles Peninsula Residents

A 3.6-magnitude quake late Tuesday in the East Bay was reportedly felt as far south as Belmont.

Residents throughout the Peninsula reported feeling a 3.6-magnitude earthquake that struck the East Bay late Tuesday night.

The quake struck at 11:36 p.m. about 3 miles northeast of San Leandro, and 6 miles southeast of Oakland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

San Mateo County residents instantly took to Facebook and Twitter with reports they had felt the quake. On Twitter, @joewo told @SanMateoPatch, "I had 5 people on Facebook in San Mateo and Burlingame instantly post they felt it. I may have thought it ws my loud neighbors."

On Facebook, a user commented on Belmont Patch's post regarding the earthquake and said she felt the tremor.
