Today's puzzle is a humorous quote from John T. Scopes. On May 25th, 1925 John Scopes was indicted on the charge of teaching about Darwin's scientific Theory of Evolution in violation of Tennessee's Butler Law enacted earlier that same year. William Jennings Bryan agreed to represent the World's Christian Fundamentals Organization as special prosecutor at the Scopes trial. Clarence Darrow represented Scopes on behalf of the ACLU. More recently in 1981 and closer to home in California, Kelly Segraves challenged the teaching of evolution in public schools as an infringement upon the free exercise of students' and parents' religions. However, in Segraves vs. California (1981), the judge found that California's anti-dogmatism policy (further clarified in 1989) gave sufficient accommodation to the views of Segraves.
