Wednesday is Free Slurpee Day at 7-11!

The convenience store will celebrate its birthday Wednesday by giving away its signature frozen drinks for free - and a new smartphone app will direct you to the closest store.

"7-Eleven Day," or "7-11," is Wednesday, and that means one thing—free Slurpees for everyone!

The convenience store chain is celebrating its birthday as it does every year, by giving away one free 7.11-ounce Slurpee to each customer who asks, anytime between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

This year marks the 85th anniversary of the company and the 45th anniversary of the creation of the Slurpee itself.

“This year we expect to give away 7 million Slurpee drinks, more than ever before, beating last year’s offer by 2 million," said Joe DePinto, 7-Eleven president and CEO, in a media release on the company's Web site.

The company has also created downloadable birthday attire—tiny bowties, hair bows and party hats—for folks who want to dress for the occasion.

If you've got your heart set on a free icy drink, don't wait too long to stop by; the offer is good only as long as supplies last.

San Mateo 7-11 Locations:

The "timeRAZOR" app, known for providing users with hyperlocal event info, will also direct users to the nearest 7-11 store participating in the free Slurpee giveaway Wednesday. What's more, the app will even give you real-time info on drivetime and traffic conditions.

Yes Bren, agree with you....good point.....really what it seems to come down to is money vs. theRead More good of the community and richness of traditions. And all despite the Master Plan for that site in San Mateo that seems to require an ice skating rink or similar recreational facility AT THAT SITE, and all despite the fact the Ice Chalet would like to continue operations there. The Developer has made it difficult to impossible for any ice rink to operate there (tricky it seems)....so they can get a cookie cutter retail outlet in ? .....very, very sad for the youth of the community.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.

Dear Ari, Thank you for your service to our community. It's wonderful that you are already making aRead More difference.
