Ticket Bears Local Sports Nostalgia

A more than 80-year-old Little Big Game ticket stub is part of a still strong traditional.

How much did a high school football game ticket cost in 1930? It ran spectators 75 cents, according to an old ticket stub for sale on ebay.com.

However, this isn’t just any old ticket stub. It came from the 1930 Little Big Game, the annual, highly anticipated match-up between l and San Mateo High School.

Back in 1930, the Little Big Game tradition was only in its fourth year. Although the stub is a bit worn, with a small chunk missing from the top, it represents the beginning of what is now an 84-game series of friendly rivalry and community celebration.

Defense on both teams must have been strong that year, as Burlingame High School won the game with a score of only 3-0. Over the years, Burlingame has won 48 times, with San Mateo High School winning 32 (four games ended in a tie).

The ticket stub is for sale for $14.99 and $3 shipping.

I think the issue is much larger than whether children will experience stress. That ice rink is aRead More local institution, dating back at least to when Fashion Island was there. It's terrible for communities to lose so many landmarks and connect us to the past.
