San Mateo Public Library Promotes Library Cards

Signing up for a San Mateo Public Library card this month gets you more than just a library card.

The San Mateo Public Library is encouraging residents to sign up for a library card this month with its "Library Card Sign-Up Month" campaign.

The campaign, which takes place in September, unites the San Mateo Public Library with the American Library Association and public libraries nationwide to promote the benefits that a library card offers to individuals and families.

According to library officials, the library card is considered to be “the smartest card in your wallet” because it provides access to a wide range of library resources at a tremendous value because it is absolutely free!

The promotional giveaway will also be given to anyone who replaces a lost or inactive card with a new library card.

September is the targeted month for this promotion because it is in alignment with the start of the school year for students of all ages.

Students can turn to the library for materials, programs and services that support academic achievement.

One of the advantages of having a San Mateo library card is access to the Library’s resources from home or anywhere via the Internet, including online access to their library account for reserving titles or extending the loan period of borrowed items; accessing unique databases; or downloading eBooks from a collection of more than 30,000 eBook titles.

For more information on how to sign up for a library card or the promotional giveaway, visit any of the San Mateo Public Library locations in person or visit the library online at www.smplibrary.org.

The San Mateo libraries are located at the following addresses: Main Library, 55 W. Third Avenue; Hillsdale Branch, 205 W. Hillsdale Blvd.; and Marina Branch, 1530 Susan Court.
