Viva’s spring concerts will feature an eclectic and electric program, with virtuoso soloists, both vocal and instrumental, a charismatic chorus and a crackerjack orchestra. Music by Mozart is central to the program, music both sacred and secular, serious and jocular, vocal and instrumental, youthful and mature. Mozart had an especially close relationship with his mother so, in the spirit of Mother’s Day, Viva will offer bargain-priced tickets for both our May concerts, Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 13, and Sunday, May 20.

The program will includes Mozart’s Serenata Notturno for two string orchestras and timpani, Mozart’s Credo Mass for choir, orchestra and soloists, the Mozart aria, Alma grande e nobi core for soprano solo and orchestra, a Baroque quadruple concerto for oboes, trumpets and orchestra, Karl Jenkins’ In These Stones Horizons Sing for baritone solo, saxophone solo, choir and orchestra, traditional South African songs in Zulu and Sotho, and Mom-isms set to Rossini’s  William Tell Overture.

The line-up of soloists includes Carla von Merz, soprano; Elspeth Franks, mezzo-soprano; Edgar Harris, tenor; William Neil, bass; Jordan Eldredge, baritone; Peter Lemberg and Meave Cox, oboes; Guy Clark and Laura Shea-Clark, trumpets; Amy Duxbury, bassoon; James Pytko, saxophone; and a string ensemble of soloists, led by Be'eri Moalem, concertmaster.

The concerts will be presented at 4 p.m. May 13 at the Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 3900 Alameda de las Pulgas, San Mateo, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at St Peter's Church, 178 Clinton St., Redwood City.

Tickets are $20 reserved/$15 general admission/$12 seniors/$10 students and groups.

Tickets can be purchased at www.vivalamusica.org or at the door. For more information call 650 281-9663 or email music@vivalamusica.org.

Among all the supporters isn't there one competent attorney who can get an injunction to keep theRead More rink from being destroyed and who can sue SPI Holding, and if necessary the City, to enforce the Master Plan Agreement? A toilet and an astro turf field are useless to ice skaters. I smell something rotten in the Mayor and the City Council's excuses. At least one skater must have a parent or family member who is an attorney with some sense of decency to do the work pro bono.

To close the ice rink is a crime. I had this conversation years ago with Peter Pau, the man whoRead More built it. We need places for children to recreate. When we send them to juvenile hall, we wring our hands and wonder why! No skate board parks in convenient places and now the skating rink. Why are our children the ones to sacrafice?
