Scenes from San Mateo

Readers are invited to submit shots from around the city.

Recently, Patch noted that we would love to run reader-submitted photos taken around San Mateo. And Hayward Park resident Bob Smith, who already impressed us with his , heeded the call:

“I love this city and would be happy to contribute,” he wrote.

Smith sent in four photos, one of which – the entryway – already has a huge viewership on Wikipedia.

“I uploaded (the shot) to Wikipedia over five years ago,” Smith wrote. “I actually see it published in other places since it is considered public domain.”

As for the other shots, “The bird picture I took recently along the Bay by Third Avenue,” he wrote. And the pillar is “one of a dozen survivors that used to mark the streets in my neighborhood.” Smith believes the pillars were erected in the early 1900s.

The smiling squirrel, of course, speaks for itself.

No doubt there are more San Mateo photographers who would like to see their work on Patch – and we'd like to see them here too. Photos can be submitted by emailing them to don.frances@patch.com or by uploading them to this article. (And if you send us the exact location of the photos, we can pinpoint them on a map.)
