San Mateo Warns Drivers of Upcoming 25th Ave Construction

The City of San Mateo’s Public Works Department has started constructing the 25th Avenue Sanitary Sewer Relief Line Project at 25th Avenue.  This six-month project primarily impacts 25th Avenue between Flores and Delaware Streets as well as the intersection of El Camino Real at 25th Avenue.  The project will continue throughout the summer and is scheduled for completion in late summer.  It is important for the community to be aware of traffic patterns and safety concerns throughout the project.

Safety is a top priority. City officials and law enforcement are working with the Public Works Department to establish safe conditions for the construction workers as well as those driving through the area.  Construction activity, construction vehicles, and the staging area for the project are located in the street, which limits traffic mobility.  Drivers traveling through the area should follow posted traffic signs, drive cautiously, pay attention to traffic control signals and flaggers, and be aware of Caltrain and any activity on the railroad.

Police and traffic enforcement will be partnering with Public Works to ensure the safety on our streets and sidewalks in the area.   Traffic fines are doubled in construction zones.  Please be aware of your surroundings to avoid a costly fine.

Consider using alternative routes to avoid the construction zones,  For example, drivers may travel from Delaware Street to El Camino Real and vice-versa by using Highway 92, thereby avoiding 25th Avenue altogether.  This route is a required detour for trucks traveling northbound on El Camino.

Public street parking on 25th Avenue is limited during construction, but all businesses are open. To encourage business on 25th Avenue during construction, the City has created a temporary public parking lot on the southwest corner of Delaware and 25th Avenue.  Pathfinder signs are installed to direct the public to this newly paved lot.

The 25th Avenue Sanitary Sewer Relief Line Project includes the construction of a new sanitary sewer relief pipeline.
