With the moving season right around the corner,
residents and guests at Moldaw Residences
received some valuable insight from an experienced professional about
relocating and organizing. Greg
Gunderson, owner and president of Gentle Transitions of California, shared advice on the common challenges of moving and
discussed the upside of downsizing during a
recent seminar at Moldaw Residences.
For 20 years, Gentle Transitions, a
third generation family-owned organization, has been using a caring,
considerate approach to assisting seniors through each step of the relocating
process. Gunderson’s team does more than pack up items and load boxes and
furniture, the team also helps individuals decide what to keep and what to sell
during the transition. The group also unpacks and organizes items in the
individual’s new home. Resident Phyllis
Tuber and her husband, Arthur, worked with Gentle Transitions when they
moved into Moldaw.
“We were so pleased with Gentle
Transitions’ help moving us into Moldaw,” described Tuber. “By the time we were
making this move, we had relocated three times in the past 14 months, so I
really don’t think we could have made this last one on our own. The entire
process of going through items and packing up what you’ve accumulated through
the years is overwhelming to consider handling alone, especially when you’re
not young. The team was a tremendous help to us!”
Tuber encourages anyone making this kind of
transition to get assistance from an organization like Gentle Transitions to
make it less of a hassle. The team of professionals specializes in the
downsizing process and creates a situation that’s less daunting, especially for
seniors who may have a lot of belongings.
“Moving is a difficult process for anyone at any
age, but it can be even more overwhelming for seniors who are thinking about
sorting through items in their homes of 40 or more years,” said Gunderson. “We
help ease their minds and walk through each step with them identifying what to
bring, envisioning their new home and focusing on what lies ahead. By speaking
to seniors in advance in a seminar, my goal is always to leave the audience
feeling inspired. We want them to know this process is doable, and services
like ours make it as smooth as possible for them.”
“Working with Gentle Transitions gave us such relief because they handled so many things for us,” said Tuber. “Besides getting us moved, they unpacked everything for us upon arrival at Moldaw. By the time the crew left, our home was ready for us to enjoy.”
Gunderson says with any moving project, begin by making “to do” lists and a moving calendar with a selected moving date. That way a schedule is set with goals. Assess the practicality of furniture as well as the sentimentality of the furniture to determine which pieces to bring into the new home. Gunderson’s number one piece of advice, however, is to handle all the easy and obvious areas first. Making all the quick decisions first allows for very visual progress and gives an encouraging feeling.
“We are always excited to welcome residents into
their new homes here with us at Moldaw, but we understand the stress that often
comes with relocating. We hope to help alleviate that in any way possible,”
said Michael De La Torre, director of sales and marketing for Moldaw Residences. “We
look forward to hosting Greg of Gentle Transitions. We want to make sure
seniors know about the services that can make their moving process a positive
