A Daly City fish importing business owner has been fined $17,500 for illegally importing more than 202,000 pounds of tuna from the Philippines, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe. Caesar Ruivivar, owner of Blue H2O Seafood, was found to have operated without a commercial fish importing license between Jan. 1, 2011, to Nov. 30, 2011, and Jan. 1, 2012, to Jan. 25, 2012, according to the district attorney's office. Investigators from the California Department of Fish and Game, which is responsible for administering fish importer licenses, alleged that Ruivivar imported 1,688 Yellowfin tuna caught in the Philippines while operating without a proper license. The Maker Faire is coming to the San Mateo County Event Center this weekend.
As another Maker Faire approaches on the Peninsula, the San Mateo Police Department is reminding residents of traffic and parking impacts for the coming weekend. The San Mateo County Event Center will host the Maker Faire on Saturday and Sunday, which is expected to draw between 50,000 and 95,000 visitors in the two-day period, according to the San Mateo Police Department. The San Mateo Police and City Organization, the San Mateo County Expo Center staff, and the Maker Faire Production staff are working collaboratively to minimize the traffic impact. United Airlines launched daily non-stop service Monday between San Francisco International Airport and Reagan Washington-National Airport. The inaugural flight was scheduled to depart SFO at 1 p.m. and arrive in Washington, D.C. at 9:17 p.m. The return flight was set to leave Washington at 8 a.m. and arrive at SFO at 11:05 a.m. "We are extremely excited United has selected SFO for its new non-stop service to Washington-National," said SFO Airport Director John Martin.
